We Recycled 6,498 Cans!
February 25, 2009 by · 1 Comment
So far, we have recycled approximately 6,498 cans!
We took our first load of aluminum cans to the recycling center last week. We had 202 lbs of cans and sold them for 35 cents a lb. We made $71.05.
Yes, we are a little disappointed that the price of aluminum has dropped drastically in the last few months. But that doesn’t stop us. Every little bit counts.. and it counts twofold.
- We are raising money for American Cancer Society.
- We are saving our environment.
Can $71.05 really make a difference?
Absolutely! The $71.05 we raised could be the difference between life and death. That little bit could be the amount needed to find a cure. Or, it could be enough to educate someone to go see a doctor and get diagnosed early. It could be a life changing amount.
What can $71.05 buy?
This amount can buy any of the following:
- 1 case of latex gloves
- 250 test tubes
- 3 glass Erlenmeyer flasks, which allow researchers to mix and/or store different substances, including potentially beneficial drugs, to discover their cancer-related effect
- 1 gift coupon for the ACS TLC catalog that provides women battling cancer with a complimentary wig, bra, or other personal care item
How will this help our environment?
- We kept 6,498 cans out of a landfill.
- Recycling one can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours. Therefore, we saved enough energy to run a TV for 19,494 hours! That’s over 2 years!
- Recycling 40 cans conserves the same energy as one gallon of gasoline. Therefore, we helped conserve the same energy as 162 gallons of gasoline.
Are we still recycling?
Yes… and we still need your help. You can drop off your cans at any of our drop-off locations.

$1,094 and Still Counting!

As of today, the CANcer Crushers have banked $1,094 for American Cancer Society and we have only just begun. Our goal was $3,000. We are now considering bumping that up to $5,000 since we have several fundraisers in the works leading up to Relay For Life on April 17. We’re having a rummage sale, CiCi’s pizza night, lemonade stands, just to name a few. Plus, we still have some corporate sponsorships rolling in!
Overall, the Northwest Tarrant County Relay For Life has raised a total of $10,458! There are 18 registered teams and 121 total participants. Relay For Life is still 58 days away. We are looking forward to seeing these numbers drastically increase.
If you live in the Nortwest Tarrant County area and are interested in starting a new team or joining an existing team, check out the Event page for details.

If you are a cancer survivor and you live in the North Tarrant county area, we would like to invite you and your family to the Northwest Tarrant County Relay For Life on April 17, 2009.
An important part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life® is the celebration of nearly 11 million cancer survivors who are alive in the United States today. Survivors include anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer. Whether you are currently fighting your battle, or have been cancer-free for many years, you are a survivor. We also celebrate the many Caregivers who have provided countless hours of care and support.
Relay For Life is a special place for Survivors. Survivors are the main reason we continue to Relay. You show we are making great strides in our fight against cancer, so we invite you to come join us. We want to celebrate you during the opening ceremony of Relay, and invite you to walk in a special Survivors lap.
If you would like to register to participate in this year’s Survivor Lap and activities, please click here to sign up today.
The CANcer Crushers hope to see you on April 17!
