Here Come the CANcer Crushers!

January 30, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

goofycancercrushersWe had our kickoff meeting last night. Ten very energetic kids showed up with some fabulous fundraising ideas. Our main fundraiser is recycling aluminum cans. But since cans aren’t bringing in a lot of money these days (about 30 cents a pound), we need to find ways to raise even more money. All the money we raise goes to American Cancer Society.

Some other ideas we threw around were pet sitting, dog washing, doing chores for neighbors, car wash, bake sale, and selling raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses. Once we decide which of these we are going to do and when we are going to do them, we’ll post it here. So make sure you check back often.

We also talked about where we could put our recycle barrels around town. If you own a business and would like to be one of our drop-off locations, please contact us.

twitterDo you twitter? We are having a blast learning about this free social networking service. We are using it to spread the word about our recycling fundraiser. We are also getting to meet many fascinating people, including doctors, nurses, cancer survivors, environmentalists, bloggers, and other Relayers. Some of these people are local and some are on the other side of the world.

Thank you Coca-Cola of North Texas for donating 23 barrels for us to use for recycle bins around town.

We’ll be busy this weekend cutting the tops off and converting them into recycle bins. Now, we just need to find some locations to put them.
